The Retreat at Subukia Shrine on 13th November, 2021
BY PHILIP ONYANGO
It is a tradition of the chaplaincy to facilitate at least a retreat to its members through the liturgy as away of spiritually norishing the soul. It’s a day of prayer and silence, one of deep end meditation on the love, vocation, kindness and mercy, one to which the lord calls us to live, share and extend our lives to in fullness. The year’s theme “ Towards Mary with A Grateful Heart”.
On 13th November, 2021, 65 students, staff Members and Fr. Augustine left Nairobi at 6.30am for Subukia shrine in Nakuru for the annual chaplaincy retreat. Fr. Augustine engaged on a short reflection focusing on the love of God and his mercy then the trail on the way of the cross started a stretch which cuts through the steep slope upwards, quite tiring and refreshing at the sametime. The older generation, those burdened in sickness climbing and struggling to get through the way of the cross and at least share Jesus’ pain.
Fr Augustine after giving the sacrament of penance in the beautiful, serene slopes, celebrated the Holy mass in one of the many charpels in the the shrine. He gave a beautiful co-relation of the youth and the Church, and how preveledged we were to have been in the university and the Church.
These were Fathers words to the members who graced the occasion; Lord, teach me to be generous, teach me to give and not to count the cost Teach me to fight and not to heed the wounds, teach me to toil and not to seek for rest, teach me to labour and not to seek for pay save that of knowing that I do your will.
Fr Augustine is a priest fron Malawi, who was invited by Fr ndikaru to accompay the YCS to Bahati shrine
