The End-Semester Holy Mass
By Francis Wambui – B.Eng. - Electrical and Electronic Engineering
As a tradition, St Thomas Aquinas Catholic chaplaincy always comes together, towards the end of every semester, as a family to worship. This semester’s party was on Saturday, 20th of July 2018. The bash started at around 8.00pm with the cerebration of Holy Mass, preceded by a session for the sacrament of reconciliation. The Holy Mass was co-celebrated by Rev. Fr. Ndikaru Wa Teresia (the chaplain) and Rev. Fr. Alexander Mutua (a visiting priest working in catholic diocese of Lismore, Australia), with the latter being the main celebrant. It was also a great moment for three couples from the TUK Alumni whose children were baptised, Neema Wangari, Alexander Mutugi and Mark Nyanzi. Also, two students, Francis Wangu and Zacharia Wachira, were confirmed during the Eucharistic Cerebration.
After the Mass, Rev. Fr. Mutua introduced himself. He talked about his experience as a chaplain to various institutions and generally as a priest, very recently, he has been appointed as the chaplain of the Australian Security Forces. In his talk, he compared the youth in Kenya and the Australian youths and concluded that in Kenya, the church is comparatively doing very well in terms of morality and faith. Rev. Fr. Mutua, a former GSU officer, has started a foundation, “Shukrani Home Foundation”. This initiative is aimed at promoting a culture of reading among the locals. The foundation owns a well-equipped resource centre that serves quite a good number of young people. As a gift, Rev. Fr. Mutua gave our YCS choir a laptop and projector.
Afterwards we had another talk from Mr Sifa, one of the Alumni. There were also Sessions of introduction, praise and worship, divine mercy rosary, and individual and group entertainment. The party ended at around 6am, the following day.
